The Week Ahead This Sunday is 3rd Sunday of Easter. Linda's message is "We Had Hoped." The choir will sing “Sanctuary.” The Session will meet after Sunday School. The Adult Forum will welcome back Len Shabman with another Zoom class from Washington, D.C. This week he will talk about "Abraham Lincoln’s Faith Journey, the Path to Emancipation and the End of Chattel Slavery." The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church is the most important Lincoln site in Washington for appreciating the president’s faith as formed by his relationship with “Old-School” Pastor Phineas D. Gurley. His time with Gurley led the President to discern that ending chattel slavery was God’s purpose for the Civil War and that he, Lincoln, is the instrument for achieving God’s purpose. The presentation will include a review of the church’s Lincoln artifacts, including his handwritten copy of his proposal for compensated emancipation, with a focus on Lincoln’s “Meditation on the Divine Will.”

Sign Up to Serve There are many opportunities to support the ministry of the church: help in the nursery, greet people at the door, assist as a worship leader, serve as host for fellowship, usher, and help pack Monday Night meals. You can talk to Ann Marie about the nursery, talk to Lisa Garcia about assisting the Deacons with greeting, sign up with Barbara for fellowship, get on Lucian's list for usher, check with Heidi about helping on a Monday night, and talk to Linda or Bruce about worship leader.
You can also pick and choose what dates you are available and what positions you want to fill via our online sign-up form at https://northsidebburg.org/volsign/. Pick the position and click on the "Submit" button. On the next screen you will see a list of open dates. Click on "--Select a Name--" in the box, pick your name from the drop-down list, and check the date or dates your are available. Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the list. You will see a confirmation screen with the dates and position. You will also receive a reminder email on the Thursday before you are signed up to serve.
Because things can change, it is now possible to delete a commitment for a specific date. The form at https://northsidebburg.org/volsign/dropme.php allows you to drop a date for a position. Click on "--Select a Name--" in the box, pick your name from the drop-down list and check the box for the position you need to change. Click "Submit" and you will see the date or dates you are signed up for that position. Pick the date you need to drop and click "Submit" to get a confirmation that you are no longer signed up.
If there are any questions about this process, contact Bruce at admin@northsidebburg.org. |

Monday Night Supper
This week's meal was baked pasta, salad, bread, fruit, and cookies. We served 78 meals.
Thanks to our volunteers this week: Marge and George, Barbara, Steve and Rosemary, Susan, and Heidi and Bruce.
Bag Collection: If you have groceries delivered from Kroger, please save the large delivery bags and bring them to the church. If you have friends who get deliveries and don't know what to do with the bags, we can use them. They are the right size to pack multiple meals for delivery to the parking lot. It is a good way to recycle the bags, reducing the need to order brown paper shopping bags.
Volunteers to help prepare and pack meals are always welcome and needed. |
